MET GALA
Met Gala, one of the biggest red carpets in the world, completed its 150 years this year. Met Gala announced its this year’s theme as “About Time: Fashion and Duration”; aiming to inspire the attendees to show the changes and development in fashion.

Fashion trends are cyclical, i.e, they come again and again during different times in different decades and centuries. every time a trend comes it bring a different perspective and ideas with it. Something frowned upon decades ago might receive applause in the future. Hence our aim was to explore different sides of these trends.
Whenever reading about the history of fashion, Victorian Era has been one of the most influential eras in terms of western fashion and style. The inspiration of our first look was from the Victorian Era. Corsets paired with voluminous gowns was the high fashion of that time. While the women tortured their bodies to present the desired figure, corsets became more like a cage than an attire. Today also we see women wearing corsets but its definition has changed. It is no more considered as a cage or comes with wooden parts like the earlier ones. But gone are the days when clothes used to be gender specific, today both men and women share the similar interest of looking good and feeling comfortable, no matter what they are wearing. Androgynous approach is the new way to fashion today. Its all about being inclusive and neutral.

Dior has always known for its pretty gowns and voluminous skirts. In this custom-made outfit, we have three parts. One the pretty asymmetrical skirt, inspired the very famous Dior skirt from the 50s, along with a puffed sleeved sheer top made out of the very elegant and delicate blue chiffon with self-dots work throughout the fabric. The third piece of the garment is the pretty blue corset, that is lined with a perfectly comfortable lining. The garment is inspired by the sea.  The look is completed with black boots to compliment the hair and add a little roughness to the whole elegant look.
For the makeup we went for a nude overall look but a little dramatic around the eyes inspired by the colorful fishes in the sea and a little pink tint for the lips. For the hair we took inspiration from the Victorian Era itself and created the whole braided look and instead of going into a bun braided the hair into a long braid with highlights of the hair going from red to grey. The braid also signifies the transition of the fashion and the role of genders in fashion. From long hair associated with only females to the reality that males can also wear them with equal grace.
In 1910, a cabaret singer started selling designed hats at 21 rue Cambon, Paris in a store named “Chanel Modes”, and so the world eventually found its Coco Channel. Coco is known for couture clothing, accessories, handbags and fragrances. Her style influenced many. Chanel has given the fashion industry not one but many iconic things, from its bestseller Chanel No.5 to Chanel’s iconic black dress or the beautiful pearls necklaces and bracelets. She liberated the women from corseted silhouettes and introduced casual clothing for woman, because of how influential Coco and her brand Chanel have been in the past and till present, we took her style as the inspiration for our second look.

The classic black is the Chanel’s signature gown. We designed this look with a fish tail, similar to the basic Chanel’s silhouette that emphasis on the body curves of the model. The gown is layered with a white cloth corset, which is just made out of cloth, making it just look like one! The look is further layered with a classic fur jacket from Chanel.  An additional veil is added to the look which can be later removed. For the accessories, the classic Chanel pearl jewelry is used for the necklace and bracelet.

For the makeup also the inspiration comes from Chanel’s makeup, with nude overall look and bold lips and winged liner. The hair is put back with a braided bun and then covered with black net. And finally, the look is completed with a three layers pearl headgear.
